Characterisation of an LED-Based Micro-Optical Encoder

Author(s):

Industry:
Electronics, Research, Semiconductor

Products:
PCI-7340, UMI-7772/74 To AKD Drive Cable, LabVIEW

The Challenge:
Building a 2D scanning system to study the light emitted by micro-optoelectromechanical systems (MOEMS) for optical encoders, which are devices that take high-precision distance and position measurements.

The Solution:
Using NI motion hardware and NI LabVIEW software to perform 2D scanning above the surface of the encoder and to collect the light emitted by the LED to assess the profile of the beam as it travels through various optical elements, and then compare it with an optical software simulation package.
